£12,000 festoon lighting for Inverness riverside walk seeks Highland Council approval

Mar 21, 2024

Decorative overhead festoon lighting could be added to Inverness's riverside if city councillors approve a £12,000 grant application.

The City of Inverness Area Committee will meet next Monday (August 28) to decide on the application, which will be used.

The riverside footpaths already feature decorative lighting in a number of trees on both sides of the Ness.

But these new proposals would add to that, with white string lights criss-crossing the pedestrianised section of Ness Walk in Bishop's Road.

The lights would extend for roughly 150 metres – from a spot parallel to the main entrance of the cathedral, and upstream as far as a point parallel to the road entrance into Eden Court.

The cost of the lighting is projected to be £12,175, which would include the installation of 10 lampposts, the 150 metres of festoon lighting, as well as the cost of erecting them.

The money would come from the Inverness Common Good Fund.
