Riders come from all walks of life, and it doesn't matter whether or not they know fellow riders they meet on their travels.

When out on his bike, Corey Hamilton said, riders always wave hello to each other on the road. It's also easy to strike up a conversation with other riders at stops along the road because it’s the love of motorcycles that brings people together.

"There's this inherent camaraderie and it's really wild," he said.

The passion for motorcycles is why Hamilton, his wife Dani Hamilton and friend Jon Marleau decided to open Motorpickle Supply at 496 Main St. W. in Port Colborne.

It's the city's only motorcycle supply shop, offering apparel, riding gear, parts, accessories, custom orders and motorcycle repairs by appointment.

Corey Hamilton serves as lead mechanic in the shop and is familiar with fixing bikes of all makes and models. Marleau works alongside Hamilton in the shop and has a passion for restoring old bikes that look more like a pile of rust and bringing them back to life.

Dani Hamilton can be found inside, operating the store and a coffee bar. She said the trio wanted Motorpickle Supply to be more than a business; they wanted the space to act as a community hub for riders and non-riders.

"We wanted there to be something for non-riders, and who doesn't love coffee or cool clothes?" she said with a chuckle.

The first Bike Night at the shop will be held Sept. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. She said she hopes the bike night will be the first of many events held at the shop.

As for the name Motorpickle, she said any rider will recognize the reference to Arlo Guthrie's song called "The Motorcycle Song."

The song's lyrics "I don't wanna pickle. I just wanna ride on my motorsickle" is catchy and the song has an enduring popularity among the motorcycle enthusiast community.

Motorpickle Supply will be open Thursdays to Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for now, with plans in the future to expand hours. For more information about the store, visit www.motorpicklesupply.com.
